I first visited Phu Yen province in Vietnam’s South Central Coast in 2023, searching for a location for a yoga retreat. What I ended up discovering was something far more unique. Shimmering rice paddies, grazing water buffalo, and timeworn motorbikes weaving toward humble fishing ports felt like a step back in time. Life in Phu Yen moves in easy contrast to the rush of Saigon or Hanoi, with locals welcoming strangers as if greeting old friends. Away from mass tourism, this province remains rich in cultural heritage. It’s what drew me to it in the first place. Largely an agricultural province, Phu Yen is now drawing clusters of travellers for its untouched beauty and stunning coastline.
